The Sci-Phi is the result of 10 years research and experiments outside of the traditional surfboard templates by Daniel "Tomo" Thomson. What you have is almost a high perfomance fish outline, with straight rails to minimise drag and to offer drive and projection off the bottom.
The complex tail design, you could call it a mutant bat tail, is designed to reduce drag, let you to pivot off the top, get really radical but with control.
The bottom gets even more freaky... A quad concave running into a single concave. This adds to the control and sensitivity of the board when on the rail, amongst other things way above my head.
This board is one big mash up of sensitivity power, drive and radical surfing. Expect seemingly unnatural acceleration, instantaneous response and an all around level performance that can only be described as Electric. The Sci-Fi is a high performance all-rounder with impressive range (1-8ft ) with usability for intermediate to advanced surfers.
Tomo puts it perfectly here, "Speed is the key. Without speed you don't have power, without power you don't have manoeuvres."
LFT - Linear Flex Technology - A fibreglass and epoxy sandwich with an EPS core and Firewire's new Springer HD... a 0.75” (18 mm) wide aerospace composite that runs down the centre-line of the board, representing the next generation in their 'Springer' technology. Unlike the original balsa Springer build, which only added stiffness under the front foot, the Springer HD runs the entire length of the board and plays a pivotal role in optimizing flex from nose to tail.
