JS Hyfi Blak Box 3 Swallow Tail Surfboard

The Blak Box 2 has proven to be a hit all around the world over the last 8 years. The Blak Box 3 carries on the emphasis of fun and exciting surfing in good to average to even poor surf conditions. Due to the huge success of the Monsta Box and the AIR 17X in average waves, the Blak Box 3 has the tweaked to go better in the lower end of the wave spectrum. Putting a fill in the gap where the waves are less than perfect. You'll notice the Blak Box 3 template has the wide point further forward and carries more foam through the front of the board, and also is slightly thicker than it's predecessors. The Blak Box 3 is very user-friendly, and will ensure you make the most of the waves, regardless of the conditions!

The new Blak Box 3 is all about easy acceleration and glide, so to achieve this they’ve given it more planning area in the nose and extra foam under the chest. To control and play with all that speed, the wide point has also been moved forward, which creates a slightly straighter, pulled-in swallowtail. This provides a smooth rock and roll from rail to rail, giving you extra drive and angles of attack to choose from anywhere on a wave. With slightly lower rails to complement its updated outline, we recommend riding the BB3 at 1/16” thicker than your last Blak Box.

Waves: Best suited in waves in the 0-4 ft range. It's geared for small and crumbly waves, but goes equally well when it's clean and hollow . The Blak Box 3 is fast, manoeuvrable and super rippable! It's perfect in average conditions when most high performance boards are struggling.

Rocker:  An average to low rocker is the perfect balance for creating speed and glide in small to average conditions

Glassing Specs: Hyfi

Bottom Contour:  A single concave through the nose running into a double concave starting just in front of the fins and thorugh to the tail. This directs water under your feet for lift, speed and manoeuvrability.

Rails: Medium to low rails reduce catch and increase speed in and out of choppy sections

Fin Set Up: Five fin set up allows for thruster or quad fin set up.

Hyfi Technology - After two years of research and development between top engineers and some of the world's best riders and over 100 prototype combinations of templates and materials, the resulting Hyfi (Hybrid Fiber) is an exclusive multi layer construction comprising of a stringerless EPS core with a mesh exoskeleton. Lighter, faster and stronger, the Hyfi creates the perfect flex properties for maximum performance. Carbon is added in all the right places for strength and rigidity and something called Olefin Fibres in other areas that require more flex as well as strength.

Picking up a Hyfi, you will definitely notice how much lighter these are than your usual PU board. (20% by all accounts). It should be noted that this doesn't mean you go way lower in volume, thinking it's going to be a lot more bouyant. The guys at JS say not to change your board length at all, and stick with what you normally ride.
Strength wise, Hyfi boards are reportedly 30% stronger than standard PU surfboards.
