Unveiling the DHD Utopia Surfboard
We're taking a look at the DHD Utopia Surfboard, the latest high-performance all-rounder from DHD and Mick Fanning. There are some interesting design stories behind this board. Mick discovered a few features he loved while developing the MF Twin, including the fin cluster, and incorporated them into the Utopia.
Key Features of the DHD Utopia
This board has undergone extensive development and refinement, resulting in something truly special. It's super fast and lively, allowing you to maximize speed and drive in smaller, weaker waves, but it can also serve as your everyday shortboard in a wide range of conditions.
Innovative Design for Maximum Performance
The Utopia has a classic shortboard outline with a slightly wider front section. It features a classic shortboard squash tail and a pointed, pulled-in nose. The rocker is medium, with enough lift in the nose and tail to handle steeper, more powerful waves with ease. The bottom has a deep single-to-double concave, combining with a low, bladed rail typical of DHD high-performance shortboards. These features maximize the shortboard feel while generating tons of speed.
Unique Fin Cluster for Enhanced Speed and Drive
One of the magic features of this board is the fin cluster, a discovery by DH and Mick that provides tons of speed and drive, making the board reactive and sharp through turns. For fins, the obvious choice would be the Mick Fanning template, though other standard thrusters can also work well with this setup.
